Nepal U19 Women’s Team secures historic spot in the T20 World Cup

The Nepalese U19 Women’s team has secured a spot in the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 after a decisive victory over the UAE in a must-win match, marking their first-ever qualification for this prestigious tournament.

Nepal, after a 13-run loss to the UAE in their previous match, needed a strong victory to overtake them in the points table – and they delivered. Nepal’s commanding eight-wicket win helped them surpass UAE in the points table of ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier and qualify for the World Cup after a impressive comeback.

UAE, choosing to bat first were restricted to 83/9 in 20 overs. Samaira Dharnidharka top scored with 31 runs while Rinitha Rajith made a brisk 20 runs.

For Nepal, Krishma Gurung delivered a brilliant bowling performance, picking up four wickets (4-0-17-4). Riya Sharma and Seemana KC picked up two wickets each whilst Rachana Chaudhary grabbed one.

Nepal needed to chase down 84 runs within 16.2 overs to surpass the UAE and secure qualification for the mega event. They achieved the target in just 14.4 overs with only two wickets down. Sana Praveen led the effort with an unbeaten 35, while Puja Mahato contributed a quick 21. Sabitri Dhami and Sony Pakhrin added 12 and 13 runs, respectively.

Nepal, UAE, Kuwait, and Thailand faced off in the Asia Qualifier, competing in a double round-robin format. With a World Cup spot at stake for the top team, Nepal achieved it with an impressive turnaround.

The U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 will be played in Malaysia from January 18 to February 2, where 16 teams will compete.
