Nepal has concluded the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup with a consolation victory. The Nepalese team defeated Malaysia by seven wickets in the Match 2 of the 4th place playoff to end the tournament.
Nepal bowled out Malaysia for just 45 in 16.5 overs after forcing them to bat first. Puja Mahato was the pick of a bowler grabbing four wickets (3.5-0-9-4). Rachna Chaudhary also picked up three wickets (3-1-5-3) whilst Riya Sharma also bowled a superb spell (4-1-5-1). For Malaysia, Nuriman made 15 runs but no other batters were able to cross the double-digit score.
In response, Nepal chased the target in 11 overs, losing only three wickets. Nepal lost both openers cheaply and were 10/2 after four over. They lost Jyotsnika Marasini for seven after a couple of overs but Puja then anchored the inning and took Nepal home. She scored an unbeaten 23 runs with the help of four boundaries. Puja was adjudged as the Player of the Match for her all-round performance.
Nepal suffered a defeat in all three group-stage matches and finished third in Group D. Meanwhile, Malaysia finished fourth in Group A after three consecutive loss.
