Jay Trophy: Madhesh and Bagmati settle for dramatic Draw

Both opening matches of the Jay Trophy concluded in draws. The clash between Bagmati Province and Madhesh Province in Janakpur ended without a decisive result. Similarly, the departmental derby held in Birgunj also ended in a draw.

Madhesh Province after opting to bat first were bowed out for a mere 102 runs in the first innings. Mayan Yadav was the top scorer for the team with 21 runs. For Bagmati, Sandeep Lamichhane took a fifer (14-2-41-5) while Surya Tamang grabbed three wickets.

Bagmati in response managed a lead of 48 runs after posting 150 runs. They were 109/9 but Nandan Yadav played a crucial knock of 47 runs. Before that, Shubh Kansakar and Sandeep Lamichhane made 35 and 33 runs respectively. For Madhesh Abhishek Tiwari and Rupesh Singh grabbed four wickets each.

Madhesh came back strongly in the second innings after Mayan Yadav’s sensational century. He hammered 106 runs to complete the first ton of the tournament as Madhesh scored 211/9. They declared an innings after getting a lead of 163 runs. Sandeep, once again took a fifer and completed a 10-wicket haul in the match.

Chasing a target of 164 runs, Bagmati got only 20 overs to bat. They ended up with a score of 97/6 as the match was drawn. Rit Gautam top scored with a quick 25 runs. For Madhesh, Harishankar Sah grabbed three wickets.

Sandeep Lamichhane was adjudged Player of the Match for his brilliant bowling display. Both Bagmati and Madheh collected 15 points each from the match after a draw.
