Bagmati Province has announced the squad for the Jay Trophy, starting from January 5. Sandeep Lamichhane will lead the 18-player squad for the longer-format cricket, played with a red ball and traditional white attire.
Sandeep last captained Bagmati’s team during the KP Oli Cup in November 2023. The return of pacer Nandan Yadav to the Bagmati squad for the multi-day format strengthens their pace bowling attack. This unit already features left-arm pacers Pratish GC, Rijan Dhakal, and U19 standout Dayanand Mandal.
Sandeep alongside left-arm spinner Surya Tamang and Tilak Raj Bhandari will lead the spin attack. Ishan Pandey, Bipin Acharya and Roshan BK are the spinning allrounders whilst Rit Gautam, Aasutosh Ghiraiya, Robin Joshi, Shub Kansakar, Uttam Thapamagar, Ashok Poudel, Suryanshu Koirala and Pratik Shrestha are the batters in the line-up.
The top four teams from the Prime Minister’s (PM) Cup National Cricket Tournament will compete in the Jay Trophy. Bagmati qualified after finishing third in the PM Cup.
On Thursday, CAN revealed the fixture and schedule for the Jay Trophy, originally planned to be named the Elite Cup, the tournament was renamed the Jay Trophy to celebrate its rich history and heritage.
