Kathmandu Gurkhas clinched a narrow three-wicket victory over the Karnali Yaks in the sixth match of the Nepal Premier League, held on Wednesday at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, the Karnali Yaks posted a total of 149 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs. The innings was anchored by Shikhar Dhawan, who remained unbeaten on 72 runs off 51 balls, featuring four boundaries and five sixes. Chadwick Walton contributed 21 runs off 15 balls, while Babar Hayat added 13 runs.
For the Gurkhas, Gerhard Erasmus was the standout bowler, claiming 2 wickets for 29 runs in his 4 overs.
In response, the Kathmandu Gurkhas chased down the target, reaching 153 for 7 in 19.3 overs. The chase was propelled by Gerhard Erasmus, who scored 38 runs off 28 balls, and Sumit Maharjan, who remained not out with 40 runs off 37 balls.
Captain Karan KC provided a late surge with a quickfire 28 runs off 10 balls. The Yaks’ bowling attack saw contributions from Bipin Sharma, who took 1 wicket for 18 runs in his 4 overs, and Zeeshan Maqsood, who claimed 1 wicket for 24 runs.
This victory marks the Kathmandu Gurkhas’ first win in the tournament, while the Karnali Yaks are still seeking their maiden victory. The Gurkhas will aim to build on this momentum in their upcoming matches.
