Janakpur Bolts secured a commanding eight-wicket victory over the Karnali Yaks in the third match of the Nepal Premier League 2024/25, held on Monday, at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, the Karnali Yaks posted a total of 141 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs.
The innings was bolstered by contributions from local lads. Gulshan Jha, who scored 36 runs off 27 balls, and Arjun Gharti, who added 33 runs off 22 balls. Former Indian cricketer, Shikhar Dhawan managed run-a-ball 14 runs, including three boundaries. Oman’s former Skipper, Zeeshan Maqsood went without troubling the scorer. Babar Hayat contributed 12 runs from 25 deliveries. Likewise, West Indies’ Chadwick Walton also struggled and managed 8 runs from 12 balls.
Captain Sompal Kami provided a late surge with an unbeaten 29 runs off just 13 deliveries. The Bolts’ bowling attack was spearheaded by Mohammad Mohsin, who claimed 2 wickets for 14 runs in his 4 overs, and Lalit Rajbanshi, who delivered economically with figures of 1 for 16.
In response, the Janakpur Bolts chased down the target with ease, reaching 142 for 2 in just 15.1 overs. The opening partnership set a solid foundation, and the team maintained a brisk scoring rate throughout the innings.
The victory was achieved with 29 balls to spare, underscoring the Bolts’ dominance in the match.
Skipper Anil Sah played a crucial role in the Janakpur Bolts’ eight-wicket victory over the Karnali as he scored an unbeaten 62 runs off 42 balls, anchoring the successful chase.
This win propelled the Janakpur team to the top of the league standings, marking their second consecutive victory in the tournament.
