A police complaint has been registered against Nepal national cricket team captain, Sandeep Lamichhane for an allegation of raping a 17-year-old minor.
Nepal Police have started an investigation over an alleged rape complaint against him. According to the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, the case was filed at the District Police Office, Gaushala on Tuesday evening.
As per the victim, the incident took place on 22 August, the day before the Nepal cricket team’s flight to Kenya.
Meanwhile, Lamichhane is yet to comment on the allegation. He is currently in West Indies to play Caribbean Premier League (CPL) representing Jamaica Tallawahs. He left the team Nepal team in Nairobi after clinching the T20I series 3-2 against the hosts.
“The police are sensitive to such serious incidents. We have made the supposed survivor undergo a health checkup and launched an investigation,” says Rabindra Prasad Dhanuk, the Kathmandu Valley Police Office chief.
Regarding the incident the Police spokesperson DIG, Tekprasad Rai said, “He will be taken in custody for further investigation on accuse”. “If Lamichhane was in Kathmandu, the Nepal Police would have started the legal process by itself, but as he is abroad, we will be doing things via INTERPOL”, Rai added.
