The Nepalese U19 Women’s Team achieved a massive victory over the Kuwait U19 Women’s Team in the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier. Nepal’s commanding 165-run win boosted their Net Run Rate, keeping their World Cup hopes alive.
Nepal faces a crucial last match against a strong UAE team on November 13, where they must secure a convincing victory to surpass UAE. This match will be the decisive for Nepal. However, UAE need to avoid a big defeat to progress.
Opting to bat first, Puja Mahato’s century helped Nepal post a record total of 213/2 in the alloted 20 overs. This is the biggest ever total by Nepal U19 Women’s team. Nepal were 56/2 at the end of the power play after losing Sana Praveen (6) and Sabitri Dhami (11).
Captain Puja Mahato and vice captain Sony Pakhrin then added an unbeaten 157 runs for the third wicket. Puja hammered an unbeaten 130 runs from 69 balls with the help of 17 fours. Sony Pakhrin also added 43* runs. Nepal also received 23 extra runs.
In response, Kuwait were bowled out for a mere 48 runs in 13 overs. Puja Mahato was a star performer with a ball as well. She picked up a five-wicket haul and ended up with a figure of 4-1-19-5. Rachana Chaudhary and Seemana KC picked up two wickets each.
For Kuwait, opener Zeefa Jilani scored a fighting 36 runs. However other batters were unable to cross a double digit score.
