The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has declared that it will be offering salaries to 35 provincial players. This decision was made during a central working committee meeting held by CAN on Thursday.
The meeting decided to allocate a monthly salary of 15,000 rupees to two female and three male players from each province (A total of 35 players). While CAN will supply the budget, each province will be responsible for signing contracts with the players.
This is a commendable initiative by the board to encourage and develop more players at the provincial level. This step will play a pivotal role in boosting grassroots cricket as well. Currently, 30 male and 23 female players are in the central contract under CAN.
The meeting also made several key decisions, such as finalizing the prizes for players and staff involved with the T20 World Cup 2024 teams, appointing chief selectors, finalizing NPL teams, and a few other important matters. All decision from Thursday’s meeting:
