United Arab Emirates (UAE) has finally unveiled their squad for the World Cup Qualifier. They became the final team to officially announce the squad for the much-anticipated tournament. Skipper Muhammad Wassem will lead the 15-man squad announced on Sunday.
UAE were forced to play the Qualifier play-off to ensure a spot in the pivotal tournament after finishing sixth in the seven-team CWC League 2. They finished second in the tournament to book a spot in the tournament in Zimbabwe. UAE is placed in Group B alongside Ireland, Sri Lanka, Oman and Scotland.
They will start the campaign facing 1996’s world champions – Sri Lanka, in the first match of the tournament on June 19. Waseem’s boys will play a warm-up match against Nepal and West Indies before going to the main event. UAE recently played a three-match ODI series against West Indies as a part of the preparation for the vital tournament.
The tournament is scheduled to take place between June 18th and July 9th. The top three teams from both groups will advance to the Super Six stage. In the Super Six, those teams will face each other, and the two teams with the highest rankings will proceed to the final. Both finalists will secure their spots in the Cricket World Cup 2023.
West Indies, Netherlands, Ireland, Zimbabwe, Oman, USA, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Scotland have already made official announcements regarding their respective squads for the tournament.
