The United Arab Emirates (UAE) registered one of the biggest wins in their white-ball cricket history as they defeated New Zealand on Saturday. UAE defeated the Kiwis by seven wickets to level the three-match T20I series 1-1.
This is UAE’s first-ever win against New Zealand. Chasing a target of 144, Muhammad Waseem and Asif Khan batted brilliantly to guide the home side towards a historic win at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. UAE reached the feat in 15.4 overs, with Waseem scoring 29-ball 55 and Asif notching up an unbeaten 29-ball 48.
Earlier, The blackcaps managed 142/8 on the board after the end of 20 overs after being invited to bat first. Mark Chapman scored 63 runs and rescued the team from the strolling stage of 65/5. Chad Bowes and James Neesham added 21 runs each, whilst other batters couldn’t score a double-digit figure.
Aayan Khan was the pick of a bowler for UAE, grabbing three wickets (4-0-20-3). He was also adjudged player of the match. Jawadullah also pocketed a couple of wickets.
UAE were 1-0 down in the series despite their fighting performance in the first match. The series decider will be played on 20th August (Sunday) at the same venue.
