Pakistan Women achieved a dominating victory in their crucial second match of the ACC Women’s Asia Cup. They registered a cakewalk nine-wicket victory against Nepal in the must-win contest.
Chasing a target of 109 runs, Pakistan swiftly finished the game in just 11.5 overs, losing only one wicket. The openers put on a stellar performance, contributing 105 runs to the total. Gull Feroza scored a half-century before being dismissed. She made 57 from 35 balls with the help of 10 boundaries. Muneeba Ali scored a winning boundary and remained unbeaten for 46 runs. Kabita Joshi got the only wicket for Nepal.
A defeat against Nepal would have knocked out Pakistan from the semifinal race. But they put on a brilliant performance after suffering a defeat against India in the first game.
Earlier in the first inning, Nepal posted 108/6 after being invited to bat first. Despite a good start, Nepal faced a big challenge in the middle overs with a continuous wicket fall. However, Kabita Joshi played a vital knock in the death overs to post a decent target.
Samjhana Khadka departed in the very first over after scoring a boundary. Kabita Kunwar then smashed three boundaries before being dismissed for 13. Nepal were in a good position at 29/1 after four overs. However, they managed to score only five in the next four overs losing, Kabita and Indu Barma (0). Rubina Chhetri, unluckily was run out without doing any special, as Nepal were struggling at 40/4 in the 10th over.
Sita Rana Magar and Puja Mahato then shared 25 runs for the fifth wicket, before set batter Sita (26) also fell short of the crease. Puja then added 34 runs with Kabita Joshi. She added a crucial 25 runs on the board. In the last two overs, Nepal added 22 runs, thanks to Kabita Joshi’s explosion. She scored an unbeaten 31 runs from 23 balls with four boundaries and one six. In the end, Nepal managed to post 108 runs on the board.
For Pakistan, Sadia Iqbal picked up a couple of wickets whilst Fatima Sana grabbed one.
Nepal who defeated UAE in the opening game, will face India on July 23.
