Nepal to face Hong Kong, China in the first match of T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier

Nepal is set to kick off its campaign in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier with a clash against Hong Kong, China on March 9. Hosted by Thailand, the qualifier will take place from May 9 to 25 and serves as a critical pathway toward the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier.

The match starts at 8:15 AM (NST) and will be broadcast live via ICC.TV.

A total of nine teams are competing in the tournament, grouped into three pools of three teams each. Nepal finds itself in Group C alongside Hong Kong and Bahrain. The group stage will be crucial, as only the top team from each group will progress to the Super 3 round. In the Super 3 stage, the remaining teams will face off in a round-robin format, with the top two sides earning a spot in the Global Qualifier.

Ten teams will compete in the Global Qualifier, from which the four teams will secure qualification for the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, to be held in England and Wales.

Nepal will be led by regular captain Indu Barma, who brings a wealth of experience to the squad. Rising star Puja Mahato has been named vice-captain, highlighting the team’s blend of experience and youth.
