Nepal Women’s team have secured a place in the Super 3 stage of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier 2024 in dramatic fashion, benefiting from a rain-affected result in the final Group C fixture.
Heading into the last group match, Nepal’s hopes of advancing hinged on a specific scenario: they needed Bahrain to either defeat Hong Kong, China, or for the match to be washed out due to weather. As luck would have it, heavy rain forced the match to be abandoned, resulting in shared points between Bahrain and Hong Kong, China.
Both Nepal and Hong Kong, China finished the group stage with five points each, but Nepal edged ahead due to a higher number of wins. This fortunate turn of events has propelled Nepal into the Super 3, alongside the United Arab Emirates and Thailand.
The Super 3 stage will be played in a single round-robin format, with the top two teams qualifying for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier.
Nepal will play against the UAE on May 19, followed by a crucial match against Thailand on May 20.
