Nepal Women kept their hopes alive in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier with a commanding six-wicket win (DLS method) over Bahrain, in a rain-affected encounter on Wednesday.
Chasing a revised target, Nepal reached the mark in 5.4 overs, finishing on 56/4. Indu Barma starred with the bat, smashing an unbeaten 24 off just 7 deliveries, earning her the Player of the Match award. Puja Mahato also contributed with 13 runs as Nepal maintained their composure under pressure.
Earlier, Bahrain posted 76/3 in 12.4 overs after opting to bat first. Rasika Rodrigo (24) and Deepika Rasangika (23) played an impactful innings. Interestingly, all three of Bahrain’s wickets came via run-outs.
With this victory, Nepal moved to five points from four matches in Group C. However, their qualification for the Super 3 stage is still hanging in the balance. For Nepal to advance, they now rely on Bahrain to either defeat Hong Kong, China or for that match to be washed out due to weather conditions.
Only one team from each group will advance to the Super Three stage, where the qualified teams will face each other in a single round-robin format. The top two teams from this stage will secure a spot in the Global Qualifiers.
