In a rain-affected encounter at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier, Nepal defeated Bahrain by nine wickets in a dramatic five-over contest.

Due to a wet outfield, the match was reduced to just five overs per side. Nepal won the toss and chose to bowl first. Bahrain posted 41 for 1 in their allotted overs, thanks to a quickfire 34* off 13 balls from their captain, Deepika Rasangika. Nepal’s Kabita Kunwar and Puja Mahato kept things tight with economical spells, but the final over by Sabnam Rai went for 20 runs.

Chasing 42, Nepal got off to a strong start with Kabita Kunwar scoring a quick 18 off 11 balls, setting the stage for Samjhana Khadka (13*) and Indu Barma (7*) to calmly finish the job. The pair remained unbeaten and saw Nepal home in just 4.2 overs.

This was Nepal’s first completed match of the tournament, as their opening game against Hong Kong, China was washed out.

Nepal will be aiming to carry this momentum into their upcoming Group C fixtures, with a crucial match against Hong Kong, China on May 13, followed by a second encounter against Bahrain on May 15.
