Nepal women’s losing streak continues as they suffer another defeat against Thailand in the Women’s T20I Tri-Series. In a thrilling contest at TU Cricket Ground, Thailand secured a five-run victory, marking their fourth consecutive win. With eight points after the second round of the series, they edge closer to clinching the title.
Choosing to bat first, Thailand managed to post 106/6 in their 20 overs. They started well at 32/1 by the end of the powerplay but soon collapsed to a precarious 34/5 within eight overs. In-form Nannapat Koncharoenkai was dismissed for 19, leaving Thailand struggling at 56/6 in the 13th over. However, Thipatcha Putthawong (25*) and Chanida Sutthiruang (27*) stitched an unbeaten 50-run partnership, guiding Thailand to a respectable total.
Manisha Upadhyaya once again was a pick of a bowler for Nepal with three wickets to her name (4-1-18-3). Debutant Rachana Chaudhary and Puja Mahato picked up one wicket each.
In response, Nepal fell just short, managing 101/8 in 20 overs and losing by five runs. Their chase got off to a disastrous start, collapsing to 8/4 by the fifth over as the top order crumbled. Rubina Chhetri (26) and Puja Mahato (19) steadied the innings with a 44-run partnership for the fifth wicket, but both fell in quick succession, leaving Nepal at 56/6. Kabita Joshi played some big shots before being dismissed for 24 in the penultimate over. With 15 runs needed off the final over, Nepal could only add nine. Roma Thapa, making her first appearance in the series, remained unbeaten on 19.
Thipatcha Putthawong picked up four wickets and was adjudged Player of the Match. Phannita Maya also grabbed a couple of wickets.
Nepal is officially out of the title race, while Thailand moves closer to clinching the trophy with eight points from four matches. Each team now has two games left to play in the series. Nepal will take on the Netherlands on Wednesday.
