The new logo and tournament date for Nepal’s official franchise cricket league – Nepal Premier League (NPL) have been revealed.
The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) hosted a program called ‘Celebration of Nepal Cricket’ in Kathmandu to reveal the new logo and tournament date.
The tournament is scheduled to take place from November 30 to December 21 (Mangsir 15 to Paush 6).
Youth and Sports Minister Tejulal Chaudhary unveiled the tournament logo. Although Prime Minister KP Oli was set to unveil the logo, it was announced that he could not attend the event due to health issues.
Youth and Sports Minister Tejulal Chaudhary, National Sports Council Member Secretary Tankalal Ghising, CAN President Chatur Bahadur Chand, and Secretary Paras Khadka each gave a speech at the event.
The number of teams and their names are still to be finalized. Previous other franchise leagues have featured six teams competing in the tournament.
The previous franchise league – the Nepal T20 League was full of controversies and criticism. CAN and Seven3Sports agreed to an eight-year contract in May 2022 which was terminated in February 2023. As per the sources, Seven3sports was also involved in the fixing scandal in the tournament. The tournament faced massive criticism regarding management, ownership and spot-fixing. Spectators also turned out in very small numbers.
As a result, CAN opted to take the initiative and host the tournament by itself.
