CAN issues RFP for Nepal Premier League franchise ownership

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for franchise ownership in its flagship T20 cricket league, the Nepal Premier League (NPL). CAN is planning to organize NPL in November/December.

CAN has established specific qualifications and guidelines for the bidding process. The bidding company must be a legally registered entity with a spotless record, free from financial fraud and other illegal financial activities. Additionally, bidders must comply with Nepal’s Value Added Tax (VAT) regulations and hold a valid tax clearance certificate.

Interested bidders can collect the RFP forms from the CAN Head Office in Mulpani, Kathmandu. The form fee is NRs. 1,00,000 (One Lakh Nepali Rupees) and is non-refundable. The submission deadline is August 16, 2024. CAN emphasizes that it holds the exclusive right to select franchise owners without offering any explanation or justification for its decision. By submitting a proposal, bidders agree to comply with the terms and conditions specified in the RFP.

The previous franchise league – the Nepal T20 League was full of controversies and criticism. CAN and Seven3Sports agreed to an eight-year contract in May 2022 which was terminated in February 2023. As per the sources, Seven3sports was also involved in the fixing scandal in the tournament. The tournament faced massive criticism regarding management, ownership and spot-fixing. Spectators also turned out in very small numbers.
