Nepal Cricket team’s rising allrounder Aadil Ansari has admitted to the accusation of spot-fixing over him during the Nepal T20 League. Aadil Ansari and Mehboob Aalam were arrested by the Nepal Police’s Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) from Rajbiraj and Biratnagar, respectively, on Monday.
Ansari played for Janakpur Royals, while Alam was not part of any team. According to the CIB, Alam approached two Nepali players for spot-fixing. He first approached Ansari to bowl one no-ball and one wide during a match. Ansari did that in at least two games, says the CIB source. The other player reported to Anti Corruption Unit (ACU). According to the rules, a player must report to ACU if he gets approached for the fixing.
Meanwhile, a CIB source says team owners from Kathmandu Knights, Biratnagar Super Kings, Janakpur Royals and Farwest United were involved in spot-fixing. The investigators organised a news conference in Kathmandu today and stated that ten people had been discovered to have been involved in fixing thus far.
Four Nepalese are involved in the incident, including one player, while the other six are foreigners. Five players were approached for the fixing, which three players rejected and reported to ACU. CIB’s investigation is still going on.
