India’s superstar cricketer, Shikhar Dhawan is set to play Nepal Premier League (NPL) 2024. The star cricketer has been signed by Karnali Yaks.
Dhawan, 38-year-old, has represented India in 34 Test matches, 167 ODIs, and 68 T20Is. The left-handed opener has scored over 10,000 runs across formats and is regarded as one of India’s finest opening batters. He retired from International and domestic cricket on August 24 this year.
With 6,769 runs, Shikhar Dhawan ranks as the second-highest run-scorer in IPL history, trailing only Virat Kohli. He was the first player to hit back-to-back centuries in the league and has captained both the Punjab and Hyderabad franchises in the IPL.
Dhawan’s inclusion not only strengthens Karnali’s team but also adds significant value to the inaugural edition of the NPL. Players such as Martin Guptill, James Neesham, and Ben Cutting have already signed with various franchises.
Dhawan is Karnali’s fourth overseas signing. They have already signed Pakistan’s Mohammad Hussain Talat, Hong Kong’s Babar Hayat and West Indies’ Chadwick Walton.
Sompal Kami is Karnali’s marquee player while Gyanendra Malla is the head coach. They signed Gulshan Jha, Nandan Yadav and Dev Khanal from A category in NPL players auction.
Nepal Premier League is scheduled to take place from November 30 to December 21 (Mangsir 15 to Paush 6) in Kathmandu.
