Nepal women clinches win in final practice match ahead of ACC Women’s Asia Cup

The Nepalese women’s team secured a victory in their final practice match before the ACC Women’s Asia Cup, narrowly defeating the Sri Lanka Women’s Development Squad by two runs in the last T20 game.

In preparation for the Asia Cup, Nepal played two T20 practice matches on July 9 and 10, followed by a rest day and a different practice session before their final match. The home team emerged victorious by 2-1 in the three-match series.

Nepal posted 112/6 after the end of the allotted 20 overs. Nepal were 52/4 in the 13th over before Rubina Chhetri played an attacking knock to lift the scorecard. She scored 37 runs from 26 balls with the help of three sixes. Bindu Rawal made 20 runs whereas Sita Rana Magar contributed 15 runs. Indu Barma and Samjhana Khadka assisted 11 and 10 runs respectively.

In response, the Sri Lanka development squad were bowled out for 110 runs in 19.5 overs. They were 105/7, requiring eight runs from the last over but Kabita Joshi won it for Nepal. Kabita also dismissed Balasuriya who scored the highest 38 runs and Nethranjali who added 26.

With a figure of 2.5-0-16-3, Kabita Joshi was a pick of a bowler for Nepal. Kritika Marasini grabbed two whilst Indu Barma pocketed one. Kabita Kunwar finished with a spell of 2-1-3-1.

The ACC Women’s Asia Cup starts on July 19 in Sri Lanka. Nepal is in Group A alongside India, Pakistan and UAE. Nepal will face UAE in the first game on July 19.
