Nepal is set for the first-ever encounter against South Africa in international cricket. The Nepalese side is scheduled to face South Africa in their third group-stage game of the T20 World Cup.
Nepal has never faced South Africa in an ODI or T20I match. However, Nepal has competed against South Africa in the U19 World Cup and emerged victorious.
South Africa will become Nepal’s 25th opponent in T20I cricket. Additionally, the Proteas will be the sixth Test-playing nation Nepal has faced in a T20I match, as Afghanistan was not a Test-playing nation back in 2014. Sri Lanka was the most recent new opponent for Nepal in T20I cricket, though their match was abandoned due to rain.
Nepal is now set to play their remaining two group-stage games in the Caribbean, following a couple of matches in the USA. They faced a narrow defeat against the Netherlands and shared points with Sri Lanka due to rain. To qualify for the Super Eight, the Nepalese team must win their remaining two matches.
Sandeep Lamichhane will feature for Nepal against South Africa. He is eyeing to match Rashid Khan’s record by picking up a couple of wickets.
