Nepal edged out by Oman in nail-biting finish despite Gulshan’s record all-round show

The Nepalese team suffered a narrow defeat against Oman in the second match of CWC League 2 series in Canada. Nepal, who were crushed with 103-run defeat in the first game against Canada, faced one-wicket loss in a nail biting encounter.

Invite to bat first at Maple Leaf North-West Ground, King City – Nepal went on to post 220/9 in the allotted 50 overs despite a low and shaky start. They were 31/3 in the 14th over after losing Arjun Saud, Aasif Sheikh and Bhim Sharki. Aarif Sheikh and Rohit Paudel did some rebuilding before Aarif departed for a marathon knock of 88-ball 35. Rohit scored 60 runs from 72 balls with four biggies. 

Gulshan Jha, promoted at number 6, played a differential knock and made 53 runs from 35 balls. Sompal Kami hammered quick 20 runs at the end.

In response, Oman completed the chase in 49.5 overs, losing nine wickets. Gulshan Jha who had a great first inning, picked up a fifer with the ball as well. However, that was not enough for a victory.

Opener Jatinder Singh top-scored with 41 runs for Oman. Kashyap Prajapati scored 36 and Aqib Ilyas made 29 runs. In the end, Shakeel Ahmed’s unbeaten 17 was some difference. 

Gulshan Jha was awarded POTM award for his brilliant all-round performance despite Nepal’s defeat. He became the first Nepal player to score a half-century and pick a fifer in the same match.
