Kathmandu/Cricnepal – Ireland defeated Nepal by 14 runs in the Group A match of ICC U19 World Cup 2012 played at Townsville.
Nepal were bowled out for 171 runs in 49.3 overs after Ireland managed to put 185 runs in their 50 overs. Losing the toss, Nepali bowlers bowled a discipline line and stopped Ireland to put up a big score.
Chasing the modest total, the Nepali batsmen failed once again in a most win match. Opener Subash Khakurel (31 off 46 balls), Pradeep Airee (29 off 46 balls) & Rahul VK (32 off 44 balls) were not enough to complete the chase.
Captain Prithu Baskota’s lean patch with the bat continues again in this tournament. A Duck in the previous match against Australia and 20 off 60 balls (S/R – 33.33) today is a worried sign for the dressing room and team staff.
In the first innings, SC Getkate (47 runs), AR McBrine (41 runs) & TE Kane (39* runs) scored the runs for Ireland to put 185 runs on the board.
Avinash Karn, Prithu Baskota, Rahul VK & Bhuwan Karki took 2 wickets each for Nepal.
