Gulshan Jha has been appointed as the Skipper of the Nepal Under-19 Cricket Team for the ICC U-19 World Cup Asia Qualifiers.
The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN)’s board meeting on Tuesday at Pokhara appointed him as the new skipper.
Gulshan, along with Dev Khanal, was recommended as the captain in the meeting, however, the final decision came in Gulshan’s favour.
Gulshan has no experience in captaincy so far. He was hyped after bowling eyecatching bouncers in the Mayor’s cup a couple of years ago, playing for Nepal Police Club. After that, the 16-years old has been consistent and has already played nine ODIs and one T20I for Nepal. He bowls right-handed and bats left-handed, and contributes an aggressive cameo for the team.
Dev Khanal, on the other, has already captained the Nepal youth team. The 17 years old led Nepal in ACC U-19 Asia Cup 2021. He also captained Lumbini Province, which clinched the U-19 national tournament a year back. Khanal has played Ten ODIs for Nepal.
The U-19 World Cup Asia Qualifiers is set to be played in UAE, with the winner confirming the spot in U-19 World Cup 2024 in Sri Lanka. Nepal, UAE, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Malaysia and Singapore will battle in the tournament in February.
