In a groundbreaking initiative to strengthen its national cricket setup, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has launched a high-intensity Core Camp. An intensive selection and development program featuring 52 players, blending seasoned performers with exciting young talents, including emerging stars from the recently concluded PM Cup, and a few standout U19 prospects added to the initial group of 48.
This is the first time such an extensive camp has been organized, with the aim of identifying top talent and forming a competitive squad for Nepal’s upcoming tour of Scotland.
The players have been divided into four balanced teams: Blue, Green, Red, and Yellow, each featuring 13 members. Leading the teams are Rohit Kumar Paudel (Blue), Aasif Sheikh (Green), Sandeep Lamichhane (Red), and Dipendra Singh Airee (Yellow), combining the experience of national stars with the enthusiasm of emerging players.
The camp follows a double round-robin format, with matches scheduled between April 26 and May 3 at both Upper and Lower Mulpani cricket grounds. Each team will face the others twice, offering ample opportunity for players to impress selectors and refine their game in a competitive setting.
This initiative comes at a crucial time, as Nepal has managed to win only two of its last 12 CWC League 2 matches. The Core Camp serves as both a selection trial and a much-needed boost to domestic cricket, offering exposure to rising talents and helping the national team management assess squad depth.
Fans have praised CAN for this proactive move, seeing it as a vital step toward rebuilding and revitalising Nepal cricket.
This provides a great opportunity for fresh talent to break into the national team. The selection process will be overseen by Nepal’s newly appointed head coach – Stuart Law, who will get his first chance to evaluate the players and build a strong lineup for the upcoming matches.
