Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has appointed former Australian cricketer Stuart Law as the new head coach of the Nepal Men’s National Team. Law, 56, has signed a two-year contract and will take over from Monty Desai, who previously held the position.

Law brings a wealth of coaching experience, having worked with multiple international and domestic teams over the years. His coaching résumé includes stints as an assistant coach for Sri Lanka (2009-2011), head coach of Bangladesh (2011-2012), and head coach of West Indies (2017-2018).

Additionally, he has led teams like Queensland, Brisbane Heat, and Middlesex. Under his guidance, Bangladesh reached the Asia Cup final in 2012, and he played a crucial role in West Indies’ transition phase leading up to the 2019 World Cup qualification.

His appointment comes at a crucial time as Nepal looks to strengthen its squad ahead of upcoming international tournaments. Currently, Nepal is in the second position from the bottom in CWC League 2 with just two wins from 12 matches.

Last month, CAN opted not to extend Monty Desai’s contract following his successful two-year tenure as head coach of the men’s team. Subsequently, CAN opened the position for applications, receiving 70 candidates, including several former head coaches of Nepal.

The salary and payment details for the new head coach aren’t disclosed yet. As per the CAN spokesperson, Chhumbi Lama, Law will arrive in Nepal after a week or so.

Law was sacked by USA Cricket in October 2024, following a 3-0 series defeat against Nepal, along with involvement in certain controversies.
