Nepal’s preparatory tour ends with defeat to Sri Lanka Development Squad

The Nepalese side suffered a defeat against the Sri Lanka Development Squad in the final practice match of their Sri Lanka tour. In the absence of several key players, Sompal-led Nepal faced a five-wicket defeat.

Chasing an easy target of 160 runs, the Sri Lanka development squad took only 26.5 overs to complete the target, losing five wickets. K Sanjula was the standout batter for the winning side. He scored 68 runs from just 60 balls. Ashen Bandara and Ravindu Rashantha also added 34 and 25 runs respectively.

For Nepal, Sompal Kami and Gulshan Jha picked up two wickets each whilst Lalit Rajbanshi got one wicket.

Earlier, Invited to bat first, the Nepalese side were bowled out for 159 runs in 40 overs. The touring side fielded without several key players. Captain Rohit Paudel, DS Airee, Sandeep Lamichhane, Bhim Sharki, Dev Khanal, Arjun Saud and Rijan Dhakal were not available for the clash. Sompal Kami captained the team.

Nepal lost Asif Sheikh for a duck followed by Anil Sah who was dismissed for just three. Kushal Bhurtel top-scored with 43 runs whereas Kushal Malla made 35 runs. Aarif Sheikh and Karan KC contributed 20 and 15 runs respectively to the total. Sandeep Jora (6), Gulshan Jha (5) and Sompal Kami (2) were unable to do any special.

For the home side, Garuka Sanketh picked up four wickets and finished with a figure of 7-0-39-4.

Nepal toured Sri Lanka as a preparatory series for the upcoming CWC League 2 series in Canada. However, the first two matches were abandoned due to rain.

Nepal is scheduled to tour Canada after a week for the second CWC League 2 Tri-series, where they will compete against Oman and Canada. In the opening series held on home ground in February, Nepal faced three defeats and secured only one win against Netherlands and Namibia.
