Nepal registered their second consecutive win in the ongoing Hong Kong Quadrangular T20I Series with a thrilling six-wicket victory over Kuwait, chasing down a target of 186 runs in just 18.5 overs. This is Nepal’s highest successful run chase in T20 Internationals, surpassing the previous record of 166 against Malaysia in 2023.
Openers Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh laid the perfect foundation with a scintillating 127-run partnership. Bhurtel starred with a blistering 81 off 50 balls, earning him his second Player of the Match award in as many games, while Aasif chipped in with a steady 53. Despite a mid-innings stutter, Nepal needed 35 runs from the final three overs when Dipendra Singh Airee stepped up, smashing 25 runs in the 18th over to all but seal the game.
Earlier, Kuwait posted a competitive 185/8 after being put into bat. Contributions from Clinto Anto (41), Meet Bhavsar (35), and a late blitz from Bilal Tahir (32 off 13) helped them to a strong total. For Nepal, Sompal Kami was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets, while Nandan Yadav chipped in with 2.
Nepal had started their campaign with a convincing eight-wicket win over Qatar and now sit comfortably with two wins from two matches. They will face hosts Hong Kong in their next fixture on April 12, looking to continue their unbeaten run in the tournament.
