The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) announced that the 2024 Nepal Premier League (NPL) will feature eight teams. This decision was made during a central working committee meeting held by CAN on Thursday.
Nepal’s franchise cricket leagues have never had eight teams competing before. Previous leagues, such as the Everest Premier League, Pokhara Premier League, Dhangadhi Premier League, and Nepal T20 League, have all featured only six teams. The franchise names are yet to be finalized.
There is already significant excitement surrounding the new NPL, as CAN has decided to take the initiative and host the tournament independently. During the NPL logo unveiling event, CAN secretary Paras Khadka suggested that Nepal’s reputed and major business houses are interested in becoming involved with Nepal Cricket and the NPL.
He also confirmed that Nepalese players will be signed through an auction, while foreign players will be directly signed by the franchise teams.
CAN hosted a program called ‘Celebration of Nepal Cricket’ in Kathmandu on August 19 to reveal the new logo. The tournament is scheduled to take place from November 30 to December 21 (Mangsir 15 to Paush 6).
