Kevin O’Brien, one of Ireland’s greatest cricketers, has been named the head coach of Biratnagar Kings for the Nepal Premier League (NPL).
With this announcement, Biratnagar becomes the second franchise to appoint a foreign head coach, following Chitwan Rhinos, who were the first to do so by hiring Umesh Patwal as their head coach.
Biratnagar’s marquee player is Sandeep Lamichhane. They signed Lokesh Bam, Pratish GC and Basir Ahmad from A category in the NPL auction.
O’Brien, who previously played for Kathmandu’s franchise in the Everest Premier League, was highly impressed with Nepal’s cricket culture and has often expressed his admiration for the country on social media.
The Irish cricket legend who announced his retirement from the international cricket in 2022, has represented his country in 153 ODIs, 110 T20Is, and three Test matches. His remarkable 50-ball century against England during a high-pressure chase in the 2011 Cricket World Cup is frequently mentioned when his name comes up.
