Dev Khanal, the captain of the Nepal U19 Cricket Team, was honoured as the Youth Player of the Year at the Nepal Sports Journalist Forum (NSJF) Sports Awards. The award was presented during the program held on Sunday.
Dev, who led Nepal to the U19 World Cup after an eight-year gap, received this recognition for his outstanding contributions. He earned the award by getting better of Athletics’ Rammaya Budha and Boxing’s Sushma Tamang.
Nepal registered a miraculous win against UAE in the qualifying tournament’s final to seal the spot in the mega event. In a recently concluded U19 World Cup, Nepal reached the super-six stage after defeating Afghanistan. Dev Khanal was the top run scorer for Nepal in the tournament.
The captain of the national team, Rohit Paudel, and Aasif Sheikh were contenders for the Best Player of the Year award, but neither of them emerged as the winner. The Nepal U19 team’s coach, Jagat Tamata also was nominated for the Best Coach of the Year.
