The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has raised a substantial amount through the franchise ownership auction for the Nepal Premier League. In the bidding process held today, CAN collected a total of NRS 16,88,93,231 (16 crores, 88 lakhs, 93 thousand, two hundred and thirty-one) from the successful bids for all eight franchise teams. This marks a major financial milestone for the league’s development.
Among the eight teams, Pokhara attracted the highest bid, reaching a whopping NRS Three Crore and 57 Lakhs. In contrast, the lowest bid was for Karnali, at NRS One Crore and 11 Lakhs.
The amount the franchise bid today is for the first year. They will have to pay a minimal base price set for the franchise from the next year.
Under the agreement CAN had made with Seven3Sports for the rights of Nepal T20 League last year, they were set to receive 33 crores over eight years. However, the deal has been terminated due to a match-fixing scandal in the league. As a result, CAN took the initiative to organize the tournament independently, and they have already secured a substantial amount solely from the franchise bidding process.
The tournament is scheduled to take place from November 30 to December 21 (Mangsir 15 to Paush 6) in Kathmandu.
Here’s the final cost, base price and owners of all eight franchises:
1. Pokhara – Nepal T20 Pvt. Ltd. at 3,57,00,000 (Base Price: 1 crore 30 lakhs)
2. Kathmandu – Kantipue Publications at 3,33,33,339 (Base Price: 1 crore 50 lakhs)
