Nepal’s star cricketer, Sandeep Lamichhane, is on the verge of creating history in the team’s 50th One Day International (ODI) match against Oman on April 21st at TU Cricket Ground. The leg-spinner is eyeing a world record as he aims to surpass Afghan Spinner Rashid Khan’s milestone of becoming the fastest bowler to pick up 100 ODI wickets.
Currently sitting on 99 wickets from 41 matches, Lamichhane has an excellent opportunity to break Khan’s record if he manages to take just one wicket against Oman. Rashid Khan achieved this milestone in 44 matches. Mitchell Starc of Australia and Pakistan’s Shaqlin Mushtaq did so in 52 and 53 matches, respectively.
Sandeep Lamichhane played his debut ODI match in August 2018 against the Netherlands, in Nepal’s first-ever ODI match. He picked up one wicket in his debut match, dismissing Stephan Myburgh. Since then, he has become an integral part of the team’s bowling lineup and has recorded three five-wicket hauls and eight four-wicket hauls.
