The Nepalese team suffered another loss in the CWC League 2 match, falling to the USA by 37 runs on Saturday in the third game of their USA tour. That was Nepal’s eighth defeat in 11 matches of CWC League 2 campaign.
Batting first, the USA set an impressive total of 281/8 in their allotted 50 overs. Captain Monank Patel and Saiteja Mukkamalla put together an 88-run partnership for the third wicket, strengthening the USA’s score. Monank contributed 67 runs, while Mukkamalla added 75. Harmeet Singh then accelerated the innings with a quickfire 59 off 44 balls, hitting three fours and three sixes. The USA managed to add 72 runs in the final 10 overs.
Gulshan Jha took three wickets but unfortunately set an unwanted record for conceding the most runs by a Nepali bowler in an ODI, finishing with figures of 10-0-87-3. Sompal Kami and Sandeep Lamichhane each claimed two wickets, while Kushal Bhurtel took one.
In reply, Nepal managed to score 244 before being bowled out in 49.5 overs, falling 37 runs short. Anil Sah (52) and Kushal Bhurtel (29) built a 71-run partnership for the second wicket after Aasif Sheikh (6) was dismissed early. However, Nepal found themselves on the back foot after losing Rohit Paudel (1), reaching 110/4.
Nepal required 172 runs from the final 20 overs. Kushal Malla scored 33, and Aarif Sheikh contributed a quick 21. Dipendra Singh Airee added 31 runs, while Sompal Kami hit a rapid 46 off 27 balls, but these efforts fell short of securing a victory.
Saurabh Netravalkar picked up four wickets (9.5-1-47-4) and was adjudged POTM. Nosthush Kenjige and Shadley van Schalkwyk also grabbed two wickets each.
Nepal will play the last game on November 4 against Scotland.
